SERGIO LEVELS

Sergio Levels (aka Mr Geography / Sandro P.) is a Calgary based artist channeling energy into several creative endeavors. He contributes inspired work to Calgary’s electronic music community, producing, DJing, designing, promoting and teaching electronic music production.

Sergio Levels got his start in dance music jamming with Dan Solo at Giant 45, a record shop and popular hangout spot for audiophiles in Calgary. The two collaborated under the moniker Piranha Piranha, producing music and initiating the forward thinking brand TheRinseOut.com, which spawned the weekly parties Modern Math and Northern Lights.

Sandro’s striking esoteric design work punctuates his event concepts. He created an original symbol-based alphabet, which he uses to promote special events, including an ongoing monthly party called Shapes.

In December 2012, Sandro started a weekly house and techno night, called Rhythm Method, with Homebreakin Records’ GSD. Sandro continues to host Northern Lights (as Mr Geography) at Calgary’s premier dance spot, the Hifi Club.

Sandro also owns Modern Math Recordings with cohorts Dan Solo and Matt Hali.

ADAM ALL DAY

Adam was born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. He became obsessed with music at the age of 6 when he first ran his fingers over a piano in grade school. He went on to study and play classical piano at a university level until the age of 12. Throughout junior high Adam played trumpet in jazz band as well as percussion and the tuba. Adam got into electronic music as a late teen, taking in popular music videos of the time and going to East coast raves in barns and hangers which eventually led him down a path to the famous “Evolve Festival” in Halifax. At this point, he decided to pack up his life and move to the other side of the country to pursue music.

In Calgary, he found himself surrounded by opportunities not only to learn, but to immerse himself into dance culture. Attending weekly events, he met Stirling Donnely at a house party in {2009?} and the two formed the drum and bass duo “Carbon Copy”. Working with 403DNB, the two made their mark in the western Canadian DNB scene opening for acts such as {fill in this blank}. During this time Adam made numerous bass tracks until the Carbon Copy moniker, but was always working to expand his repertoire and was finding himself more and more drawn to 4/4 music.

In 2014, Adam left Carbon Copy and has rebranded himself as “Adam All Day”. His current repertoire spans multiple genres and tempos but centres around house and garage. His debut release is set to drop on Substation Recordings in the winter of 2014.

HIDIO

Hidio is a young house producer emerging from the recently booming bass scene in Calgary, Alberta. Under his more well-known moniker, DJ Logo, he is heavily involved and well known throughout most of the electronic music circuits in the city as a talented performer, tireless promoter, and all-around musical junkie.

He got his start playing various house sets throughout the city before being picked up by the 403DNB crew in its earlier stages, and giving major contributions to their subsequent growth. Since then, he has carved out a reputation as a Drum and Bass DJ that combines strong technical skills with a flair for the dramatic–none of his sets would be complete without one of his characteristic hip hop mash-ups. You can always catch him repping the prolific 403DNB crew at any one of their shows.

The creation of Hidio as an alter-ego is a recent progression, motivated by a long-standing desire to get behind the production boards. True to its copyright-spellchecked namesake Hideo, a cybernetic ninja from William Gibson’s “Neuromancer,” this manifestation of the artist is understated but precise, and always on point. From his productions to his mixes, Hidio always makes his movements in the cut.

JHNN

JHNN (J-H-N-N)  AKA JOHN ARUM is an upcoming Indie dance/house DJ from Calgary, Alberta who has an essential goal to hear good music on the radio again. The name JHNN comes from one of his biggest inspirations MSTRKRFT, a name he chose after hearing on an interview at much music that the band had played Rap music in a music scene that didn’t accept rap music and continued to do so until winning the crowd over.

JHNN decided to become a DJ around mid-2008 when he saw the growing trend of DJs coming out and discovering that his love for listening to good music was quite similar to the love of playing good music as a DJ. He grew up listening to a variety of music including rap, rock, dance and pop but mainly favored techno and Pop music as a kid. His other biggest inspirations include Daft Punk, Kanye West, Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers, The Presets, Ladyhawke, Jay-z, Simian Mobile Disco, Deadmau5, Toro Y Moi, LIFELIKE, Cut Copy, Coldplay, Grum, Friendly Fires, Death Cab For Cutie, Death From above 1979, K-os, The Killers, Bag Raiders and Miami Horror. During the beginning of 2009, he began experimenting with FL studio and bought a free DJ program called “Mixxx.org” (now uses Traktor pro 2) in order to gain experience in mixing songs together and fell in love with the creative process of making music and the process of mixing songs together. After numerous amounts of recording, JHNN decided to enter a remix competition and made his first remix of Dragonette’s Pick up the phone. The remix was followed by Burns – Disko (titled nu-disko).

After a year of doing remixes (many of which were never finished, released to public) JHNN decided to Record his very first EP titled Radio on september 2010. With the rise of Dubstep in clubs, JHNN wanted to experiment with bassy sounds without losing the energy of Indie Dance that he was introduced to at the beginning of 2009. 5 months later he had finally release an unmastered copy to soundcloud after the title track Radio defined the sound he wanted to partake in.

At the beginning of 2012, JHNN decided to meet some DJs by attending Beatdrop’s open deck sessions at SAIT polytechnic and worked on getting to know DJs a lot better and techniques of DJs a lot easily. He was also in the midst of recording his debut album entitled HypoCRT 0.th3m which takes elements of Dubstep, Indie Dance, House, UK funky, pop and Rap into one mix. By the end of 2012 he had 4 mixes on mixcloud via Beatdrop, 2 of his own mixes and 10 songs on soundcloud.

Currently he is working on perfecting his first album as well as working on starting up his first record label entitled Modestlark (http://www.modestlark.ca ). He also uses his website to promote local music in indie/dubstep/dance that he favours and is working on his very first event. His latest promo single “Time and Place” was featured on Salacious Sound’s Soft Served along with a feature on Calgary’s local frequency magazine earlier this year and his cut copy remix “take me over” has been featured on a french blog Digipulpe and is his most popular song on soundcloud to date.

JHNN continues to attempt the connection between combining indie dance music and modern dance music without drifting away from the sounds he fell in love with at his humble beginnings of DJing.

WAX ROMEO

Wax Romeo is undoubtedly the world’s greatest lover, but when he’s done blowing kisses at the mirror, he can be found whipping out evvy choons in the studio, or playing his Friday night residency at Calgary’s Hifi Club.

His father, a well-dressed thief known for carrying a cache of weapons inside a steel drum, taught Romeo about marauding and defrauding at a very early age. Since then, he’s fleeced more fools than The North Face, stealing whatever he can, including the Golden Titty, which belonged to the dangerous Jamaican “Blouse an’ Skirt Posse”.

Having collected funk and disco records since he was just a yute, it wasn’t long till he figured out just how small bits of those records fit nicely on the 16 pads of his MPC 2000xl; and subsequently, how to rearrange those bits of records onto new records of their own.

Then came DJing. Flash forward a few years, and this dummy’s played with all kinds of people, all over the place including the Shambhala Music Festival (Canada), The Rub and Flashing Lights (NYC), SXSW (Austin), and Mexico.

When he’s not writing self-congratulatory bio’s, or sleeping with his socks on, Monsieur le Romeo continues his quixotic journey through the landscape of house, disco, and techno, armed only with a winning smile and delusional self-confidence. If your party needs some step, He’ill get here fast, driving his empty brown limousine in the carpool lane. Get aroused.
